Unlike other forms of support, SIL is tailored to your unique needs and offers 24/7 assistance in a shared or individual living arrangement. SIL funding covers support services such as personal care, household tasks, and assistance with community involvement, ensuring that you have the help you need to live comfortably and independently. It’s important to note that while SIL supports daily living, it does not cover rent or other living expenses.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) focuses on providing the day-to-day support you need to live independently, such as help with personal care, household tasks, and community involvement. It’s about the assistance you receive, whether you live alone or in shared accommodation. Whereas Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is all about the physical housing itself. SDA funds the cost of specially designed housing that meets the needs of people with extreme functional impairments or very high support needs. Essentially, SIL is about the support you get in your home, while SDA is about the home itself.
To include SIL in your NDIS plan, you’ll need to work with your support coordinator or talk to us to develop a detailed care roster that outlines your daily support needs. This roster is submitted to the NDIA for approval, and if accepted, the funding will be allocated to your plan.
